O KANENAS has released a new single, “The Last Goodbye,” featuring Tom Boon. This song, part of a broader album with themes of resurrection and simplicity, draws inspiration from Greek and Anglo-Saxon folklore.
“The Last Goodbye” tells the story of a lover returning from the dead for one final night, fulfilling a long-kept promise. The song incorporates a Zonaradikos dance pattern from Thrace and features traditional instruments like the pontian lyra, oud, and reed wind instruments, mimicking the sound of bagpipes. Tom Boon’s vocals add a Celtic-inspired touch, enhancing the song’s emotive narrative.
The album also includes tracks like “Medieval” and “Fire of Your Soul.” “Medieval” focuses on the theme of contentment and simplicity, utilizing a unique blend of flamenco guitar, low-pitched Irish whistle, Hungarian zither, and kalimba. “Fire of Your Soul,” which features the pontian lyra played by Nikolas Petridis, revolves around battling inner demons and incorporates a folk hard rock sound, aligning with the album’s Christian-inspired motifs.
Richard Orpheus Campbell contributed drums and bass, recorded at Orpheus Studio in London. O KANENAS played all other instruments and provided vocals for “Medieval” and “Fire of Your Soul,” showcasing his versatility and dedication to the project.
O KANENAS continues to explore and blend diverse musical traditions, creating a unique sound that bridges cultural and stylistic gaps. The intricate instrumentation and profound themes of “The Last Goodbye” and its accompanying tracks highlight his innovative approach to music.
